She was a sports reporter for some of the largest outlets in the country. Her time as a reporter at The Washington Post was spent covering multiple Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis along with basketball, football and other sports. In 2004 Nichols transferred to ESPN for a nine-year run where she won 2 Emmy Awards and appeared on many of the network's most frequented shows such as SportsCenter as well as NFL Countdown. Also, she was the correspondent of Monday Night Football on the network. Her next move was to CNN as well as Turner Sports. Unguarded by Rachel Nichols was the first show she created and hosted. It aired on CNN International and CNN. The show had more than a billion viewers worldwide. Nichols was also a reporter for TNT for NBA broadcasts during the playoffs as well as All-Star broadcasts. Her duties for TBS included baseball and golf coverage, and Final Four broadcasts by CBS. This is only the second nomination in the 42 years that have preceded the award for a female among more than 200 nominated candidates.
